I would recommend it to anyone, regardless of their religion, who wants their life to be touched. Life is hard. Ned Flanders, aka Sam goes "why does God do this to me?...God sucks!

John Groberg, a farm kid from Idaho Falls, crosses an ocean to become a missionary in the remote and exotic Tongan islands during the 1950s. Charly comes to Salt Lake from New York City to visit her family and meet Sam Roberts. I was interested enough in this movie in part from Jeremy Elliot's involvement after seeing him in the fabulous movie officially made by the church, The Testaments, and I found his performance to be quite well done. Being this the first "adult" novel I ever read as a kid, you might say it's been my life's goal to see this movie. It is a very funny comedy, but it has a dramatic side to it as well. I don't have enough room to tell you why, but this movie is about true love and a girl who dies of cancer. A woman from the new church calls and he responds rudely. This film will also appeal to anyone who appreciates a decent, clean love story. Having each other forever is THE main theme. I attend BYU-Idaho, where Jack Weyland, the guy who wrote the book the movie is based on, teaches.

As many reviewers have mentioned, Heather Beers is the perfect Charly, a wonderful actress deserving of Hollywood fame. CHARLY is one of those movies that really don't care if it's seen as being too sugary. We want to hear what you have to say but need to verify your email. Copyright © Fandango. Here is a film that speaks to issues, not religion. I'll return to the theatre to re-see this film -- and look forward to eventually purchasing it on DVD! I was totally drawn into the characters and the story, even having read the book, did not prepare me for the raw emotion I felt as the movie ended. I felt the joy and sorrow in that movie.
